The Sydney Marathon is the newest Abbott World Marathon Major, making it one of the most sought-after marathons in the world. The course crosses the Sydney Harbour Bridge, past the Sydney Opera House, and through the Royal Botanic Gardens, offering one of the most spectacular settings in global running. As a new Major, demand is surging and entry is by ballot.

The Course

Starts in North Sydney, crosses the Sydney Harbour Bridge, runs through the CBD, along the harbour foreshore past the Opera House, through the Royal Botanic Gardens, and finishes at the Sydney Opera House. Hilly in places but the views make up for it.

August is winter in Sydney, so expect cool and dry conditions (8-18°C / 46-64°F), excellent for running.
